REPORT
Wild Horses are some of the most amazing animals that live in the desert. They roam in the tall grasses and eat natural grain, and in the winter they eat leaves, or if they have to, bark. They get water from nearby streams, ponds, or rivers. Wild horses need 24-30 pounds of food every day. If they live near the ocean, they will eat a little bit of seaweed, too. Some Wild horses compete with other horses in their group and some animals in their ecosystem for food. For wild horses, it's a challenge to get food everyday.
Most wild horses live in the desert, although some live in the ocean, mountains, etc. Wild horses started living in North America then moved across the Bering Strait Bridge to other countries and civilizations. Most wild horses live up to 15-40 years in the wild. They also can live in grasslands across the prairie. They live in Virginia, Colorado, and a little more. Wild horses are becoming extinct because people are building cities and cutting down trees in thier ecosystem.
Rabbits, other horses in their heard, and other animals in the dessert all interact with wild horses. Wild horses may fight with wild stallions. .Animals in the desert such as elk, gray fox, and prairie dogs all interact with plants in the desert such as short grass, desert willow, and rattlesnake weed. Animals in the desert don't just interact with living things. They interact with nonliving things by drinking water, eating food (that's not living), and running in the dirt or sand.
Part of the food web in the desert might look like this: Grass and bark provide energy for the wild horse. Bugs and bacteria provide energy for the bark and grass. The bugs also provide energy for the mouse. The sun provides energy for the bacteria, and dead plants and animals do too. The sun also provides energy for the dead plants and animals. Some of the consumers in the dessert are: wild horses, coyotes, elk, raccoons, and all the rest of the animals in the desert. Producers are: basically just the sun. Decomposers are: bacteria, dead plants and animals, anything that decays. All the resources in the desert depend on all the animals lives. if one resource gets taken out, all the plants and animals will die.
Believe it or not, the desert ecosystem is successful and still has a bit of water. Cactuses provide water for animals who know how to get it out. Even though the desert has a greater chance of having fires because it's so hot, it still manages to get along. I had very much fun working on my website and report. I hope you enjoy it.
